Best Alternatives to Qubicle of 2020

If you are a voxel artist who has made voxel art in Qubicle you may have be wondering what other voxel art software is out there. So what is the best alternative to Qubicle? We have a list of alternative voxel editors for creating voxel art.

MagicaVoxel

MagicaVoxel is a great alternative voxel editor developed by @ephtracy for creating voxel art models. It has all the tools you have in Qubicle including the ability to delete, edit, add and paint voxels. It also ships with a powerful rendering engine for creating some amazing images for sharing that you won't find in Qubicle. If you want to use the model in a game engine or separate 3D program, it also supports obj export. Best of all its 100% free for personal and commercial projects.

Features:
  • Full Featured Voxel Editor for Adding, Editing, Deleting and Painting Voxels
  • Free to use for Personal and Commercial Projects
  • Powerful Built-In Rendering Engine
  • Multiple Export Formats including .OBJ, .QB, and .PNG

Voxel Max

Voxel Max Voxel Editor Software

Voxel Max, a powerful mobile voxel editor developed exclusively for iOS for creating voxel art  models is another great alternative voxel editor to Qubicle. This app is literally loaded with features, many that you'll only find in Voxel Max. First thing you'll notice with Voxel Max is that it includes real time material rendering with excellent performance. Voxel Max also supports a 256x256x256 building area so you can build as big as you need to which is kind of a negative with other software out there today. Some other useful features include instance cloning, rotation, translation, flipping, object alignment and snapping. Did we mention you can also use Apple Pencil with pressure sensitivity? We were blown away by the team at Voxel Max and the excellent work they've been doing which is why when it comes to iOS, this is our preferred voxel editor for making voxel art. Why is this such a good choice? Because Qubicle doesn't exist on mobile at all. If you like to make art on the go, this is a great choice.

Features:
  • Full Fledged Voxel Editor with the ability to Add, Edit, Delete and Paint voxels
  • Huge feature set including instance cloning and delinking, non destructive rotation, translation, flipping, object alignment and snapping
  • 256x256x256 Build Area
  • Apple Pencil support with pressure sensitivity
  • 240 Color swatches with individual alphas
  • 24-bit RGB color with 8-bit transparency
Supported Platforms: iOS (beta), macOS (coming soon)
Price: Free (Beta)

Goxel

Goxel is alternative open source voxel editor for desktop and mobile. Like Qubicle, it also supports common functionality such as editing, deleting and creating voxels. A powerful feature of Goxel is the ability to use layers like in Photoshop to keep your independent voxel models separated from each other in a single scene. By far its biggest plus is its pretty much available anywhere: iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and Linux. The desktop versions are completely free to use however there is a one time fee for the mobile versions. Still this is a pretty solid option considering all the devices you can use this on.

Features:
  • Complete Voxel Editor for creating, editing and painting voxel models
  • Desktop Version Free to Use for Personal and Commercial Projects
  • Mobile Version available for creating voxel art
Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android

The current version is in Alpha and is free to download and use.
