Hello Again Everyone! Its almost time for our next Mega Voxel Jam! Since the beginning we wanted to create a community where everyone can experience the fun of working with voxels and show off their work with the rest of the world. A great way of doing that is through our Mega Voxel Jam competition. We’ve been working extra hard to create a jam where voxel artists of all levels get a chance to show off some of the great creations they make!

This time around we decided to do some things differently. Rather than choose a specific theme like last years where it was based on animals, we decided to broaden the theme and allow voxel creators a little more freedom in creating what they feel best meets the criteria. Also instead of one challenge there will be three this time around!

Mega Voxel Jam Schedule

  • Mega Voxel Jam starts and accepts submissions between May 4th – May 16th
  • Voting begins and continues from May 17 – May 23
  • Winners will be announced May 24

Mega Voxel Jam Challenges

This year’s jam will consist of 3 seperate challenges that you can enter. You can participate in one or all three! However you can only submit one submission to each. We feel really good about this years lineup so read on to see what challenges you would like to participate in.

Challenge #1: Tiny Challenge

In this challenge we wanted creators to really emphasize every voxel that went into their piece by limiting the size that they have to work with. This makes every voxel count! Creators are free to make anything they want, but the creation itself must stay within 32x32x32 dimensions. We are excited about this one because many of the most liked creations featured on Mega Voxels are under 32x32x32.

  • Challenge: Tiny Challenge
  • Theme: None, Free to Choose
  • Challenge Constraints: Single model no bigger than 32x32x32 or Multiple models combined no bigger than 32x32x32.
  • Eligible Voxel Software: MagicaVoxel, VoxEdit, Minecraft, Qubicle, Voxel Max or Goxel
  • Tips: The main idea of this challenge is to recreate something tiny, so if you want to get the best possible score, don’t just make something to fit the requirement, actually make it “look” tiny.

Challenge #2: Bricked!

So this challenge is one we’ve been wanting to do for a while now. In this challenge you are free to create whatever you like as well, however you must use the Lego shape in MagicaVoxel. We have had a lot of positive feedback from LEGO creators on Instagram and Facebook and they are excited to see the possibilities of making block creations with voxels!

  • Challenge: Bricked! Challenge
  • Theme: None, Free to Choose
  • Challenge Constraints: Must use the Lego shape in MagicaVoxel voxel editor
  • Eligible Voxel Software: MagicaVoxel
  • Tips: To learn how to apply this effect check out our tutorial How to Create Lego Voxels in MagicaVoxel. Also even though there is no size requirement we recommend keeping your scene small enough so that the judges and the community can see the Lego effect on your model. If its too big it’ll be difficult to see the effect and lower your chance of winning.

Challenge #3: My World

We believe that every voxel creator whether you’re in MagicaVoxel, Qubicle, VoxEdit, Voxel Max or even Minecraft has a creative and unique version of their dream world. So for this challenge we invite you to share with thousands of others what your dream world would look like in voxels. There is no model or size limit. We are also inviting our Minecraft creators to join on this challenge. We are excited to see what you create!

  • Challenge: My World
    Theme: Your Dream World
  • Requirements: No size or model limit, however must be a single scene
  • Required software: MagicaVoxel, Minecraft, VoxEdit, Qubicle, Voxel Max or Goxel
  • Tips: If you are using MagicaVoxel and want to make a bigger scene, check out our tutorial How to Increase the Maximum Size in MagicaVoxel.

Mega Voxel Jam Awards

Each challenge will have 4 winners: First, Second, Third and Editor’s Choice. The winners will be voted on by the community and be monitored by the Mega Voxels Team. The Editor’s Choice award will be selected by the Mega Voxels Team. After the time limit is up we will use a voting system similar to last years, which is a combination of likes, comments and shares. The point structure will work as follows:

  • 1 Like = 1 Point
  • 1 Share = 3 Points
  • 1 👍 Comment = 5 Points

The top 3 creations with the most points for each challenge will be the winners. The prizes are as follows:
